各位新界西的選民：
Dear voters of New Territories West,

我們是深水步K20-K23重建區的街坊，政府在2004年4月30日公佈這裡為重建區。在複雜的重建政策下，政府並沒有向街坊說明我們應有什麼權益，街坊們在沒有選擇的情況下，都不知道應該如何安排往後的生活，感到非常徬徨及無助。直到2005年10月政府引用《土地收回條例》強行收回了我們住了和工作了幾十年的地方。
We are a group of residents of the Sham Shui Po K20-K23uban renewal district. On April 30, 2004, the government declared this part of Sham Shui Po an urban renewal district. Despite the complexity of urban renewal policies, the government did not explain to us our rights and entitlements. We felt very helpless and were at a loss as to how to make plans or provisions for the future. In October 2005, using the Urban Renewal Authority Ordinance, the government forcibly resumed homes and workplaces in which we had resided and worked for several decades.

那時候，我們很多街坊都不知怎樣做才好，心底裡茫茫然的，非常無助。其後，更有街坊被政府控告霸佔官地，要我們上法庭應訊，面對很多的困難。我們那時的心情，就如在暴風雨當中，徬徨無助，又像在絕望邊緣掙扎，慶幸得到張超雄議員的幫忙。他是唯一一個立法會議員，願意坐下來用心聆聽每一個街坊的困難，然後再仔細做筆記，並替我們在立法會申訴部質詢政府對街坊的刻薄及不平等的對待。
We were very lost and totally helpless. Subsequently, the government even prosecuted some of us for illegal occupation of government land and dragged us to court. In our most desperate hour, Legislator Fernando Cheung came to our help. He was the only legislator willing to sit down to listen to the problems of each resident, took notes, then followed-up through the Legislative Council’s Complaints Division to grill officials on why the government was so mean and unfair to us.

雖然他由那時起直到現在，都不是我們九龍西區的立法會議員，但他卻比我區的議員更用心和落力跟進事件。他為我們跟進了很多個案，過程中，我們亦看到他很了解小市民和草根階層的難處，而且他所做的一切工作，都是不求回報的，我們對他真是感激萬分。
Although Fernando Cheung has never been a legislator for Kowloon West, he is more committed and diligent than our own legislators in following–up on our problems. He has handled many cases from us. In the process, we can see that he truly understands the difficulties of the grassroots. Above all, for all the hard work he does, he has no intention of asking for rewards. We are really very grateful to him.

因此，我們決定自發寫出這封信，讓新界西的市民知道，張超雄議員是一個為街坊發聲；爭取公平、公正、公道的議員，希望各市民投他一票，讓他可以繼續發揮能量，為全港市民，尤其是基層市民爭取合理權益。
Thus, we decided to write this unsolicited letter to inform voters of New Territories West that Fernando Cheung is a legislator who speaks up for the residents and who fights for equality, impartiality and fairness. We hope voters will vote for him so that he can continue to defend the rightful interests of society, especially of grassroots people with his energy and vigor.

對於張超雄議員不辭勞苦，不計較個人名聲，只默默為市民 / 街坊工作的態度，街坊們都深表讚賞，無以為報，只聊數語，以促鼓勵。錢財如糞土，人義值千金。他不向帝王唱讚歌，願為黎民作牛馬，人過留名，雁過流星，永留青史。

For Fernando Cheung’s hard work and quiet efforts in serving the people, never minding about personal prestige or gains, we do not have much to give him in return. We hope this letter will be an encouragement to him. Money is like filth when compared to chivalry. Cheung does not sing the praises of the powers-that-be, but works strenuously for the common people. His name will be remembered.
